Jonathan Smith continued his excellent run of form in championship matches this season with a second victory of the series on Park Pool at Gawsworth Fisheries. Consolidating his position at the top of the table and pulling out a five point lead over his nearest rival, Jonathan weighed in 35lb 8oz of chub, carp and barbel to win with 6lb to spare over the 24 strong field. Pole fished pellet fished at 16 metres towards the overhanging bushes of an island provided fish right from the all-in. An excellent first hour  provided the basis for Jonathan's catch and he continued to catch steadily throughout the match despite losing a number of larger carp. Neil Jellis took second place from peg 3 with a 29lb 1oz catch of skimmers, tench and carp. Pole fished pellet and then legered pellet to some reeds just off an island proved to be the successful combination of methods. Dabba Booth was drawn at peg 2 and weighed in 14lb 8oz for third place. Dabba used pole fished meat or corn and feeder fished meat to the island rushes for his catch. Stefan Brown scored his first points of the championship series with his fourth placed 12lb 8oz catch from peg 20. Yet again pole fished pellet was the best method.

This was the club's first visit to Park Pool at Gawsworth for four years and although a number of anglers had a poor day in comparison to others, the weights were considerably improved on the last match at the venue when the match was won with 12lb 7oz and that was the only weight into double figures. On this occasion there were six double figure weights and a winning weight almost three times better.

After three matches the championship table is headed by Jonathan on 28 points with Neil second on 23, Dabba third with 13 and Andy Archer fourth with 12.

Interestingly, only 3 anglers; Jonathan, Neil & Andy have scored points in all three of the matches so far this year. With attendances up there will be more anglers that fail to score points in each match thus making a top ten finish essential for anyone looking to mount a challenge for the championship title. As there are now 12 matches (from 14) counting towards the title those who have yet to get off the mark will need to start scoring points quickly.
