Congleton Anglers Society

Notes from the 2002 AGM

The 2002 AGM was held on the evening of 28th November at The Vale Club, Canal Street, Congleton.

15 Members of the Society were present.

Chairman's Report
In the absence of the Chairman, the Club Secretary Neil Jellis provided an overview of the activities of the society for the previous 12 months. He highlighted the substantial increase in junior membership, the acquisition of the "Romping Donkey" stretch of the Trent and Mersey Canal, the fencing  work undertaken at the back of Goodwins Pool, the attendance at meetings of the Cheshire and North Staffs Angling Association meetings and the success of the website that had seen over 3500 hits in the last 12 months. The low points had been an early exit from the Supercup competition on an out of sorts Caldon Canal, poor attendances at the junior events and increased problems with litter at Goodwins Pool.

Treasurer's Report
Peter Farrell reported that the society is in a healthy financial position. The society has an adequate bank balance going into 2003.

Membership Secretary's Report
Karl O'Donoghue reported that membership was increased in 2002. The increase was due to the number of juniors that joined, an increase of 158% over 2001. The number of senior members was down by 7, this was believed to be as a consequence of the imposition of the bait restrictions at Goodwins Pool. Overall there were 179 members in 2002 whilst in 2001 there were 145. The make up by membership type was: Life Members, Complimentary Memberships and Officers - 12, Seniors - 90, Juniors - 62, Veterans - 15.

Match Secretary's Report
Mick Byram reported that attendances had been up during the year and that the match fishing side of the society had been self-financing. Phil Eyre is the Matchman of the Year having scored 62 points with Pete Farrell claiming second place on aggregate weight after he, Neil Jellis (3rd) and Bernie Chappel (4th) all tied on 54 points.

Junior Angler Organiser's Report
Neil Jellis reported that 2002 had been a disappointing year considering the success of 2001. Attendances were down for most matches. Whether this was because of the World Cup, Commonwealth Games or Jubilee celebrations was hard to tell.
The juniors had another excellent day at Border Fisheries with Chris Lowe winning the match.
The Under 12's Champion was Chris Lowe with Kelsey Link  the runner-up.
The 12's and Over Champion was Lewis Hurley  with Joshua Hoinville the runner-up.
The Canal Champion was Chris Lowe.
Chris Lowe was the aggregate weight champion with a total catch of 16lb 9oz 15dr.
Neil Jellis thanked those who had made the season a success and reported that with the proceeds of the fund raising matches, sponsorship, money and tackle donations, the junior section had been self supporting and had not taken any funds from the society during the year.

The society has decided to keep all  fees unchanged:

Category Entrance Fee Membership Fee
