Notes from the 2001 AGM

The 2001 AGM was held on the evening of 30th November at The Vale Club, Canal Street, Congleton.

16 Members of the Society were present.

Chairman's Report
Society Chairman Terry Depledge gave an overview of the activities of the society for the previous 12 months. He highlighted the increase in membership, the acquisition of the stretch of the Macclesfield Canal, the roadside work undertaken at Goodwins Pool, the successful juniors season and the launch of the website. Terry thanked all the officers for their hard work over the year.

Treasurer's Report
Peter Farrell reported that the society is in a healthy financial position. Some loans had been repaid during the year and  the society has a healthy bank balance going into 2002.

Membership Secretary's Report
Neil Jellis reported that the society had nine more members in 2001 over the previous year with a total of 145. Juniors had increased by 5, Veterans by 3 and Seniors by 1. There had been a healthy sale of day/guest tickets, particularly at the height of the Foot and Mouth crisis when anglers were buying tickets to fish Goodwins Pool.

Match Secretary's Report
Mick Byram reported that attendances had been up during the year and that the match fishing side of the society had been self-financing.

Junior Angler Organiser's Report
Neil Jellis reported that 2001 had been the most successful year since he began organising events in 1997. There had been 3 teach-ins, 6 Championship matches and the Canal Championship match had been re-instated following the acquisition of the stretch of the Macclesfield Canal. 16 different anglers had competed in the matches, with 8 in each age group. There had been 68 attendances at the Championship matches, an average of almost 11 per match.
The juniors had an excellent day at Border Fisheries despite some awful weather and have been invited to go back again in 2002.
The Under 12's Champion was Kelsey Link with Chris Lowe the runner-up.
The 12's and Over Champion was Shane Jones with Joshua Finney the runner-up.
The Canal Champion was Chris Lowe.
Kelsey Link was the aggregate weight champion with a total catch of 10lb 11oz 4dr.
Neil Jellis thanked those who had made the season a success and reported that with the proceeds of the fund raising matches, sponsorship, money and tackle donations, the junior section had been self supporting and had not taken any funds from the society during the year.
